Portfolio Subject Selection

Great Needs, Great Deeds
Sharing Great to do good.

What is the name or title of your subject?
The name of the subject for my portfolio is “Great Needs, Great Deeds.”

What is the nature of the subject? Provide a description or bio.
This is a program started by Great Clips to highlight charitable work done by the salons and company as a whole. Some of this work includes balloon sales for Children’s Hospital and also cut-a-thons at different sports events. The four main focus areas of the Great Deeds program are Community, Health, Support and Appreciation.

What is the subject’s main purpose or goal?
The goal is to help different people and causes by volunteering time or raising money. To relax and help people during unfortunate life events. To help fund research and medical care. Even to help fund different scholarships and education.

What are the subject’s core values?
To help or recognize the people who make a difference everyday. The program has been a starting point for many other programs from the company such as “Clips of Kindness” or free haircuts for Veterans on Veterans Day. To help and be involved in the community where salons are located.

Who is the subject’s intended audience, members, or customers?
The audience varies depending on the type of event. For the balloon sales and cut-a-thons it is more directed for people with kids. A lot of the money raised goes towards helping people who cannot pay the medical bill get help. For the “Clips of Kindness” program it is directed towards people with cancer who need comforting as they make the difficult decision to shave their hair. Free haircuts on Veteran’s Day are mostly directed towards Veteran’s, but customers who are not Veteran’s can receive a card to thank one.

Does the subject have any specific symbols or logos?
Yes there is a logo for this subject, but it is very simple and does not relate well enough to show the power of this message.

Is the subject associated with any particular color or color?
It is kind of associated with a lime neon green color, mostly seen on a white background.

What do you see as the subject’s greatest media needs?
These events; weather big or small need to be advertised more. Here in the Columbus market we actually do many cut-a-thons at sporting events such as: Clippers games, OSU Hockey games and even some basketball games. The market twice a month sends two people to Children’s hospital to cut hair for the parents who have children admitted there. It gives them a chance to pamper themselves and talk with someone who is not going to give them bad medical news. It helps to try and keep a part of their lives a little more normal. Some salons have even sent stylists to schools where there are kids less fortunate, and we will cut their hair and even give them a comb of pencil or other promotional items. The bigger events can get media attention, weather it is on the news or on Facebook, but these smaller events should be just as advertised. It could help more people, businesses, or schools that could use that help to just make the call. Also it would be nice for these events to actually give credit to the people it is actually due too. This past summer an amusement park here in Ohio did a “Kings Island Kicks Cancer” event, the event made the news. Unfortunately majority of the credit went to one person, and that person was not even someone who was shaving someone’s head. The stylist’s need to credit they deserve. This is a good example of a marketing position that could be created.

Portfolio Project Mission Statement

My Mission Statement

My beliefs are that family should come first and that all people; no matter their job title should be treated equally. I am a wife, mother and a hard worker. I can find the positive in all the bad, but have a flaw at being too realistic at times. While I love my job and to has lead me to where I am at, I feel as if I should share my knowledge with other businesses and individuals to help them grow within the public and online. With the use of the power of social media and other media outlets, spreading the word to millions within minutes. To help others to achieve the success they dream of and the success I have and want to further experience.

AET Practice: Working with Color

Activity 1

To complete this practice, you will be selecting a single object within a photograph, and altering the color of that object without affecting the other areas of the photograph.
